Victorian mural artist Simon White has painted a mural on the southern wall of the Quandialla Soldiers Memorial Hall. It tells the story of the region’s rich agricultural history, starting with the soldier who pays homage to our local service men and women.
Quandialla founded in 1914 was a product of the coming of the railway. Situated in the heart of the wheat belt, with a rich history of agriculture. The Weddin Mountains, a popular tourist destination and prominent feature of the landscape.
This project was made possible by a successful grant application to The Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal, FRRR. These grants help ensure the long-term vitality of remote and rural Australia, focusing on the social and economic strength of our communities. A shared thought, a conversation and after many discussions during Quandialla Progress Association meetings an idea was born. This grant allowed their dream to become a reality.
Born in Melbourne, Simon White is well known for his large-scale murals across Victoria, South Australia, Queensland, and NSW. Since the Silo Art Trails growth in popularity, he has been incredibly busy.
Simon started sketching the design on the wall on Thursday the 20th of April 2023 and made startling progress in a very short time. Watching the mural evolve as the different layers were added was truly fascinating. Take the road less travelled and come and see the Quandialla mural.
