Grenfell Kart Club

The Grenfell Kart Club was formed in 1967, a little under 10 years after karting took off in Australia.

When the club was formed, there were 10 members.   The first President of the Club was Mr Eric Burton and the first Secretary was Mr Maurice Simpson. The 10 members were very keen Karters.

The first official trophy meeting was held on Sunday 21st April, 1968. It was officially open by the Mayor, Ald. Claude Mendham and Shire President, Clr. Ed Livingstone. Over 30 karts took part in the meeting.

The first invitation meeting, June 9th 1968, had a record crowd estimated at 800 adults and children. More than 50 karts took part in the racing program. Competitors came from Young, Sydney, Orange, Canberra, Camden and Bathurst.

In 1969, Grenfell was chosen as the venue for the State Country Championships, and 86 karts took part in the NSW Country Championships meeting. Since then the State Country Championships have been held at the Bogolong track on numerous occasions.

The Grenfell Kart Club rebuilt a new gravel track in 1971 with assistance from the Weddin Shire Council by supplying large earthmoving equipment. The new gravel track was opened by the Shire President, Clr. Ed Livingstone on June 15th, 1971.

The Lachlan Valley Titles were first held in Grenfell on Sunday April 27th 1975, where 55 karts competed.

Since then – times have changed, although our passion and drive for racing has not changed. Grenfell Kart Club still hold the longest consectitive track licence. We have hosted many events throughout the years and our two marquee events each year definitely one not to miss!
